FALL/WINTER 2021/2022 as regards dress style and consumer de- mands. The high ground of comfort and con- venience attained in the last few seasons will likely not so quickly be abandoned, coexisting with the deliberate celebration of „dressing-up“. Season trends in de- tail: Womenswear Stay cool, keep calm – the imperative of the day finds expression in upcoming fashion. Light neutrals, already impor- tant this fall/winter, remain a main- stay. Specifically: off-white, white, silver and greige. They appear both in indi- vidual pieces and as entire monochrome outfits. Camel, cognac and brown, to- day's confidants, remain so in the new season. Black gains prominence, either mixed with white, white and red, or as a total look. Shades of green are Zeit- geist. Reed, olive, khaki are available as well as jade, teal, bottle green or – as a lighter note – winter mint. Salmon, rosé, purple and plum are complements. For sweats and outer wear, colours can run a gamut of brights such as club green or electric blue. And apropos blue: it is no longer dominant but, thanks to denim, also never really gone. Last but not least, a warm orange, brick and bordeaux com- plete the colour palette. Wooly looks are a sign of the times. The pantsuit was on the verge of becoming a trendy item until reality demonstrated that it was much less nec- essary than envisioned. Designers are giving it a second chance: with a small blazer, or in a casual interpretation with an over-shirt or boxy/ Spencer jacket. In general, the over-shirt plays a leading role, especially in „in“ fabrics such as wool, corduroy or velvet (or its democratic counterpart: velveteen). There is upward potential in tailored slacks, ranging in shapes from marlene, boyfriend to slim fit, worn with knits or sweats. Up-style casual is back! Flared shapes are an option for slacks - not overly long, as in the past, but a touch shorter. And not to be combined with high heels, but with sneakers or Chelsea boots. The latter simply belong to next fall, in striking forms and with robust soles. There is a penchant for making a strong statement, not just for the feet: accented shoulders go into the next round. As previously mentioned, denim remains relevant, even as an en- tire outfit, not just in classic blue but in white and cream tones, in gray or black denim. Other fabric favorites for pants are corduroy and velveteen, often used for relaxed silhouettes. The trend towards mini-skirts is obvious, seen in wool plaids, denim or (vegan) leather. But knee-length varia- tions are also options. This range in lengths is available for dresses as well: by choice short and fitted or mid-length and urban. Velvet makes a statement. And as concerns prints: they are subtler than in the past. Florals, graphics, smudged aquarelles, ethnic and paisley patterns are hushed, sometimes barely hinted at. Shirt dress shapes are avail- able in both blouses and dresses as one of the key products of the season. And what about outerwear? The range includes casually cut wool coats, volu- minous trench-coats, teddy sherpa coats, wooly parkas and jackets in Barbour style, either waxed or quilted. And not to be forgotten: long vests. 23
